During the 2000s, amidst challenging times, Batman and Harry Potter provided a lifeline for Gary Oldman. Notably, he portrayed James Gordon in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy and took on the role of Sirius Black in the Harry Potter series. However, Oldman almost contributed his exceptional acting skills to another iconic franchise. Despite his appreciation for working with Lucas, Oldman had to step away from the role due to union regulations, opting not to risk potential repercussions.

Oldman’s departure from the project ultimately opened the door for Matthew Wood. Wood had anonymously submitted his audition and emerged victorious among numerous contenders for the part.
