The highly anticipated third season of Sweet Home debuted globally on Netflix on Friday, July 19, 2024. The previous season ended dramatically, with Lee Eun-Hyeok (Lee Do-Hyun) emerging from a monster cocoon and walking amongst the monsters in a memorable fashion. Fans have eagerly awaited to see what the final season holds and how the monster saga concludes.

In the third season, viewers witness Hyun-Su (Song Kang) and Eun-Yoo (Go Min-Si) reuniting with Lee Eun-Hyeok, who has transformed into a neohuman. The season also introduces the monster version of Sang-Won, which has been residing in Pyeon Sang-Wook’s (Lee Jin-Young) body. This monster takes over the mutant daughter, Seo Yi-Su (Kim Si-A), using her as a vessel because of her extraordinary powers. The monster creates an army using survivors, controlling their minds.

Episode 8, the finale of Sweet Home season 3, sees Sang-Won’s monster inside Yi-Su bringing Hyun-Su and Eun-Hyeok to a field beside a stadium. A colossal battle ensues between monsters, humans, and neohumans. This episode delivers a thrilling and emotional journey that culminates in a cathartic ending.

The final showdown starts with Hyun-Su and Eun-Hyeok fighting Sang-Won’s monster within Yi-Su’s body and its massive army. Eun-Hyeok, now a neohuman, aims to kill Yi-Su to eliminate the monster. However, Hyun-Su stops him, believing he can save her, as he did with her mother, Yi-Kyung (Lee Si-Young).

During the battle, a flying bat-like monster takes Hyun-Su away, allowing Eun-Hyeok to attack Yi-Su. The human version of Yi-Su regains control and allows Eun-Hyeok to strike, forcing the monster out of her body and leaving her gravely injured.

Hyun-Su fights the flying monster and rushes to Yi-Su, who reveals she took the hit deliberately to reunite with her mother and no longer wishes to live. She further asks Hyun-Su to kill his father and end the war.

In the finale’s climax, Hyun-Su returns to the battlefield to confront Sang-Won’s monster, now residing in Pyeon Sang-Wook’s body, aware of Hyun-Su’s emotional attachment. However, Hyun-Su is determined and unyielding this time.

The human version of Sang-Won eventually takes over and directs himself into a massive pit of fire, killing both himself and the monster. As he dies, his daughter’s body also feels the pain, signifying the defeat of the monster.

With the war over, peace starts taking hold. Sergeant Tak In-Hwan (Yu Oh-Seong), even in monster form, aids other survivors in escaping, showing humanity despite his transformation. Sergeant Kim Young-Hoo (Kim Mu-Yeol) becomes the leader, caring for the remaining survivors.

The finale also depicts Eun-Yoo’s transformation into a monster, driven by dark thoughts. Hyun-Su and Eun-Hyeok search for her in vain, with Eun-Hyeok suggesting she might join the neohumans. They then part ways.

Hyun-Su manages to bring other survivors to the stadium, where they are under Kim Young-Hoo’s care. They decide to relocate together. The final moments show Hyun-Su, the survivors, and soldiers encountering a group of neohumans and opting to coexist.

The last scene has Hyun-Su meeting Eun-Hyeok on a rooftop. They observe Eun-Yoo walking on the edge while listening to music, hinting at her transformation into a neohuman with some hope of retaining her human emotions. The K-drama concludes with Hyun-Su referring to this new era as their “Sweet Home.”
