What the F Is Woke? Like I Care.

Ice-T recently responded to a claim that “Law & Order: SVU” has diverged from its original format and “started to go woke.” The rapper and actor, who has been portraying Detective Odafin Tutuola on the NBC crime procedural since 2000, became the series’ longest-serving male cast member. He is currently filming the show’s 26th season.

A fan commented on an “SVU” set photo that Ice-T shared on X (formerly Twitter), asking: “Did they write ‘SVU’ back to normal yet? It started to go woke.”

“What the F is woke?” Ice-T replied in his post, which has since gone viral with over 4.5 million impressions. “Lol. Like I give a fuck.”

Season 26 of “Law & Order: SVU” will see Ice-T returning alongside Mariska Hargitay, a franchise staple. The upcoming season’s cast also includes Kevin Kane, who has been promoted to series regular, and newcomer Juliana Aidén Martinez joining the team. Peter Scanavino will reprise his role as ADA Dominick “Sonny” Carisi Jr.

In an interview with Variety last year, Ice-T clarified that “I’m not a cop. I’m the furthest thing from a cop.” He admitted that portraying a law enforcement officer on TV has become “difficult” in recent times.

“People have said that our television shows are police propaganda, making the police look good. I understand that argument,” Ice-T stated. “The cop I am on our show is an SVU detective… When I got the job at ‘SVU,’ Dick Wolf said to me, ‘Ice, you don’t like cops, right?’ I told him that during my criminal past, I didn’t hate cops — they were my opponents. [He asked,] ‘But you admit we need them, right?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ So, Wolf told me to play the cop that we need. And if I play the cop that we need, I won’t have any problems with it.”

“Law & Order: SVU” Season 26 is slated to air on NBC this fall.
