What We Know So Far About Glen Powell’s New Hulu Comedy Series

Glen Powell clearly has a packed schedule. Not only is the Anyone But You star and Twisters charmer preparing for his alleged date with Top Gun 3, but he’s also involved in several other projects. Among these are a guest appearance on Family Man, a starring role in Edgar Wright’s remake of Stephen King’s The Running Man, and somehow, he’s also working on a comedy series for Hulu.

This won’t be Powell’s first foray into TV comedy. He previously appeared in Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens, where his comedic talents shone. He will also soon star in Chad Powers, which sounds like a superhero parody about a male “Karen.” However, unlike Jason Sudeikis’ origins of the Ted Lasso character for NBC Olympics coverage before it became an Apple TV+ series, Chad Powers found its inspiration in a different context. So, what can we expect from Chad Powers?

College football fans might recognize the name “Chad Powers.” Eli Manning previously filmed an ESPN+ docuseries where he went undercover as Chad Powers, attempting to make the Penn State football team. The disguise included a wig and prosthetics, making for some entertaining moments.

The series adaptation of this oddball stunt is set to film in Atlanta from August to October this year, as announced by Hulu. In this adaptation, Powell will “disguise himself and walk onto a struggling Southern football team as the talented, affable Chad Powers.” There are a few certainties here: Glen Powell excels in disguises, and he’s not afraid to dive into offbeat adaptations.

On a promising note, the series is co-created by Loki and Rick and Morty producer Michael Waldron along with Powell, both of whom will serve as executive producers. Deadline reported a statement reflecting their enthusiasm:

“We’re both diehard college football fans. When we saw Eli as Chad Powers, we knew that was the way into a big, fun story about this world. We’re excited to be part of this team, and can’t wait to get Chad in the game. Think fast, run fast.”

Alongside Powell, the series will feature Steve Zahn as head football coach Jake Hudson, whose career might just be saved by the “talented oddball Chad Powers.” Prepare for some strangeness with this series.

While Hulu hasn’t announced a release date yet, it is expected that Chad Powers will wrap up filming in October, making a 2025 rollout probable.

As of now, no trailer is available since filming has yet to begin. However, Eli Manning’s Chad Powers tour is still available on YouTube for those looking to get a sneak peek at the character’s origins.
