Who’s Out Tonight in Elimination Challenges 8 and 9?

Night 8 and 9 of MasterChef: Generations kicked off with a major twist from Gordon Ramsay: as of night 8, it was each home cook for themselves. No more generational teams, no more hiding behind the best cooks of each generation.

The episode featured a MasterChef classic, the "Tag Team" challenge. Joe Bastianich announced that each team would have to create four dishes instead of the usual three, making it the toughest tag team challenge yet. Each dish represented a generation: the appetizer was King Trumpet Mushroom "Scallops" (Gen Z), the fish course was Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna (Millennials), the meat course was Pan-Roasted Filet Mignon (Gen X), and the dessert was Crêpe Suzette with Chantilly Cream (Baby Boomers).

As the winning captain from the previous week, Rebecka was tasked with picking the pairs. Her selections were:

Warren/Hallie
Daniela/Horacio
Murt/Kamay
Jeet/Adam
Michael/Kimberly
Rebecka/Becca

In the second hour of the night 9 challenges, Aarón Sánchez informed the remaining cooks that they had 45 minutes to create a restaurant-quality dish using coffee as an ingredient in two ways. Making a dessert would be particularly challenging within this limited timeframe.

Before the cooking began, Gordon Ramsay demonstrated a dish using coffee in five forms: a dry coffee rub, coffee butter, a cup of espresso, espresso dust, and coffee liqueur. The twist: Michael and Kimberly, the winners of the last episode, had to choose three cooks to make a dessert with coffee. Their picks were strong competitors: Adam, Rebecka, and Becca. This strategy almost worked out for them.

The team whose performance faltered in the "Tag Team" challenge was Adam and Jeet, with Jeet singled out as responsible for most errors. Consequently, Jeet was sent home.

Reflecting on his time, Jeet said, "I think being in this kitchen and getting to cook for the legends up there and making Top 12, I never thought I’d get this far. So I am extremely proud of what I’ve accomplished. I came here as a super fan but now, I’m leaving with the confidence of Chef Jeet."

The standout dishes of the night came from Michael and Kimberly, earning them Immunity Pins for the following episode. Kimberly remarked, “This Immunity Pin feels amazing. That was a hard challenge but the best part is the tallest and the shortest won the challenge, so I think Rebecka messed up, because look who’s in the Top 10 now.”

In night 9’s "Storms a Brewin’’ challenge, the top three dishes were Kamay’s Coffee-Rubbed Lamb Chop, Murt’s Deconstructed Stuffed Pepper, and Warren’s Coffee-Crusted Veal Chop. Kamay emerged victorious and was thrilled to secure her place in the Top 10, stating, "I cannot be more excited. I made the Top 10. I am so glad I am immune, and I get an easy ride into the Top 9. It’s a great place to be right now.”

However, the bottom three dishes didn’t meet expectations: Rebecka’s Coffee Custard Crinkle Cake, Adam’s Coffee Panna Cotta, and Daniela’s Coffee Crusted Chicken Breast. As a result, Daniela was sent home.

Looking back, Daniela said, "Ambition got the best of me, but I went out with one of the dishes that represent me, my culture and heritage. Even though I did have some mishaps, I feel proud of myself. I am leaving the MasterChef kitchen much better than I was when I arrived, so much better. Engaged, ready to plan a wedding, and I can’t wait to plan that menu.”

MasterChef airs on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
