Why Are Robyn and Kody Brown Selling Their Mansion?

Recently, it was discovered that Sister Wives stars, Robyn and Kody Brown, are selling their large home. But what is the reason behind this big change of mind to let the mansion go?

Although there has been controversy through the seasons over Robyn and Kody Brown living in a much bigger home than the other wives, they seem to enjoy their home. However, they have decided to put the place on the market. While each of the former wives, Meri, Janelle, and Christine Brown, are going their separate ways, now Robyn and Kody appear to be making new plans too. The previews for Sister Wives Season 19 show that the family is getting pulled and stretched in new ways during the transition out of plural marriage.

Since the dream of building together on Coyote Pass is only a figment of the past, Robyn and Kody are making new moves. Garrison Brown’s passing may also be a weighted factor in their decision to let the dream home go. The five-bedroom, four-bathroom, 4,476 sqft. home looks clean and prepared for viewings, with big hopes of selling. But why are they choosing to move now?

Undeniably, the picture has changed drastically since the plural family first moved to Flagstaff, AZ. Instead of four wives, Kody Brown is now in a monogamous relationship with Robyn Brown. Likewise, losing a child gravely alters life in its entirety. On Reddit, several Sister Wives fans discuss the mansion being on the market. One user comments, “Crazy that they are selling their place. Something went down for them to sell their mansion. They are 3 less incomes. Robyn and Kody probably hate seeing how happy the OG3 are without them.”

Several fans have theories about why Robyn and Kody Brown are selling their home in Flagstaff:

  • One person simply says, “They are broke.”
  • “Three people left and they took their incomes with them.”
  • “The market is hot and the profitability window is narrow just like in Vegas. They may not have an opportunity like this again.”
  • “Dayton has got a job and left to escape his over-the-top mommy.”
  • “Well, they bought it for around $900K and it’s selling for $1.6M. So it’s not a bad time to sell, assuming they could get full price. But I think they are selling because they can’t afford it without the other three incomes.”
  • “The pool of buyers at that price is very small.”

Other Sister Wives fans noticed that Robyn and Kody Brown’s listing didn’t include everything:

  • “They aren’t including the extra lot they purchased if I’m reading the listing correctly.”
  • “The lot on the listing is 2 acres.”
  • “Yes, there’s another parcel next to the one the house is on.”
  • “They’ve apparently taken one and a second mortgage on this home alone.”

Many people speculate that the move is rooted in money or the lack thereof for Robyn and Kody Brown:

  • “I hope it’s because they have to pay back the other wives.”
  • “This is my hope as well — they have to sell to reimburse Janelle and Meri.”
  • “The only money Janelle and Meri can ever hope to recover is from Coyote Pass.”
  • “That’s why that preview scene with him begging Janelle to give him another chance is hilarious. He’s desperate for her income!”
  • “I’m wondering if the original three did take him to court and he has to sell to pay them back.”

Janelle and Kody Brown are most likely piecing together the shattering after the loss of their son, Garrison Brown. The entire family is learning to move on. Perhaps Robyn and Kody are moving away to start over, much like Meri, Janelle, and Christine Brown have done. Most of the family has relocated, leaving little family connection for Kody and Robyn in Flagstaff.

  • “I feel like with everything falling apart in Flagstaff, the wives leaving, Garrison’s passing — it’s probably not an easy place to be.”
  • “Kody seems to have trouble settling down in one area for too long. Robyn likes to follow her kids wherever they go. It could be fueled by either of these things. They may have waited until now to get more attention and hype for the new season’s premiere. Also, grief could be a reason.”

Why do you think Robyn and Kody Brown are selling their big house? Do you think they are building somewhere else? Do you think they are broke and had to sell? Did Janelle Brown sue them for the property?
