Why Emily Deschanel Disappeared from Hollywood for 2 Years

“Bones” was a cornerstone of Fox’s programming for 12 years, and during that time, Emily Deschanel embodied the show’s title character. Her commitment to the series meant that for over a decade, her schedule was tightly packed, leaving little room for extended breaks. After the series concluded, Deschanel rightfully took a step back from acting to enjoy some well-deserved time with her family and to carefully choose her future projects. Fortunately, it seems she has been successful in finding roles that suit her, even with her more selective approach.

In 2017, the final season of “Bones” was Deschanel’s sole acting credit. The following year, her only appearance was a cameo as herself on “The Simpsons.” In 2019, she returned to the screen, featuring in the “Drunk History” Season 6 episode titled “Behind Enemy Lines” where she played Marina Raskova, and she had a recurring role in “Animal Kingdom” Season 4 as Angela. Like many in the industry, her schedule in 2020 was clear due to the global situation. However, in 2021, she made a guest appearance on Season 3 of “The Rookie,” portraying Sarah Nolan.

Deschanel’s career picked up steam again in 2022 when she took on the role of Janet in the film “Continue” as well as Suzanne in the mini-series “The Devil in Ohio,” appearing in eight episodes. In 2023, she played the character Nicole in the film “Big Boys,” marking her latest release at the time of writing.

It’s clear that Emily Deschanel has maintained a presence in Hollywood post-“Bones.” Her ongoing work in film and television suggests that she will continue to contribute to the industry, expanding her legacy beyond her iconic role as Dr. Temperance Brennan.
