Why Fans Think Latto Disses Ice Spice on ‘S/O to Me’ from ‘Sugar Honey Iced Tea’

Latto made a triumphant return on Friday, August 9, with the release of her much-anticipated album, Sugar Honey Iced Tea. Among the tracks, the album closer “S/O to Me” has generated significant buzz online. Fans are dissecting her lyrics, trying to identify the potential targets of her pointed rhymes.

Apple Music’s Ebro Darden noted that Latto seemed to be channeling her “Jay-Z bag,” while others saw parallels to Drake’s famous timestamp series. Over smooth production by Saint Mino, many listeners are convinced that Latto took shots at Ice Spice, signaling that their feud is far from over.

In one of the standout lines, Latto raps, “Bye sis, funny thing about it, you can’t look me in my eye, sis,” seemingly directly addressing Ice Spice. She continues with, “Ice is just water when it melts/ Wipe you down, I got plenty towels on the shelf, it’s easy.” These bars have led fans to believe there’s no sign of reconciliation on the horizon.

Some of Latto’s other lines are also sparking debate among fans. In one instance, she raps, “Karma will deal with you, though, I promise, your judgment awaits,” which some fans link to Ice Spice’s 2022 “Karma” collaboration with Taylor Swift.

In another apparent dig, Latto says, “You fighting for radio play, he fighting a government case.” This line is interpreted as a jab at Nicki Minaj, referencing both Minaj’s complaints about radio support and her husband Kenneth Petty’s ongoing legal issues from a 1994 sexual assault case.

One fan expressed their thoughts on X, saying, “Latto is at it again coming for the rap girls. Wordplay on Ice Spice name and another sub for her and Nicki. Latto takes me out she don’t care!”

Despite the public perception of ongoing feuds, Latto clarified her stance during an interview with Ebro Darden on Apple Music. “I’m exhausted. For real, I’m so over the beef. I’m gonna put this out there, Latto don’t got no problems with nobody,” she stated, emphasizing her desire to move past the conflicts.

When Ebro pointed out some of the lyrics that could be interpreted as shots at Ice Spice, Latto downplayed them by explaining she doesn’t see it as “beef” but rather as “art” open to interpretation. “That’s not beef though, that’s art to me. I think art is up for interpretation and that’s the beauty of it,” she added.

Ice Spice also addressed the rumored feud in her Rolling Stone cover story, essentially downplaying any real conflict between her and Latto. “I feel like if we ever spoke and I asked her, ‘What’s the issue?’ it’d be like a blank stare,” she said. “It’d really be no issue whatsoever. Especially from me. I can understand a friendly competition, but I just feel like at this point it’s a joke that she’s just dragged out, and it’s just not even funny.”

Latto shared a similar sentiment regarding Ice Spice’s willingness to engage in a rap battle. “If I was to do [a battle], it would have to be with somebody I feel like Imma go tit for tat with,” Latto told Billboard in her July cover story. “I really don’t mean it as shade. Would she even want to do that?”
