Why Kaley Cuoco Reconsidered Marriage Amid Engagement to Tom Pelphrey

When Kaley Cuoco declared she would “never get married again” in an April 2022 interview with Glamour, her fans took notice. At that time, she was fresh off a four-year marriage to equestrian Karl Cook and wasn’t considering another walk down the aisle. But her fiancé and father to her daughter Matilda, Tom Pelphrey, hadn’t yet come into the picture.

Now, a Life & Style insider has shed some light on why the 38-year-old actress made such a bold statement just two years ago. “[Kaley] meant it at the time, but she was dealing with the pain and embarrassment of having her second marriage crash and burn,” the source explained. Cuoco’s first marriage to former tennis pro Ryan Sweeting lasted from 2013 to 2016 before her marriage to Cook. Meeting Ozark star Pelphrey changed her life in more ways than one.

The engaged couple was introduced by their talent manager, Andrea Pett-Joseph, right around the time Cuoco had sworn off marriage. “[Andrea’s] like, ‘Oh my God, I think you guys are perfect for each other,’” Cuoco recounted to USA TODAY in May 2022. “Tom walked in, and I heard his voice, and I turned around, and it was like my life was over, or just starting. It hit me. It was love at first sight. We were immediately connected.”

This sentiment was a far cry from her previous declaration to Glamour when she was dealing with the “trauma” of her marriage ending. “I will never get married again. I would love to have a long-lasting relationship or a partnership,” she said at the time. “But I will never get married again. Absolutely not. You can literally put that on the cover.” Well, Pelphrey changed her mind, especially as they hope to expand their family and give their daughter a sibling.

“It makes sense to make things more official,” the Life & Style source noted. “Kaley’s more than happy to admit she was wrong to swear off marriage.” Her story is proof that minds can change, especially when the right person comes along.
