Winona Ryder Calls Beetlejuice Sequel a “Dream Come True”

It’s been 36 years since “Beetlejuice” opened in theaters, and since 1988, fans have eagerly awaited a sequel. The upcoming release of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” next week has fans thrilled for the return of the Ghost with the Most. Winona Ryder, the star of the film, also feels that the sequel is a dream come true. Ryder shared her emotions and experiences about filming the sequel in an interview with ComicBook.

“Every moment of being there I was very present,” Ryder said. “I made sure because it’s like an absolute dream come true, and you just want to really be present for every single, literally, every single moment.” She expressed how special it felt to return to a project that has been so meaningful to her career and personal growth.

Ryder continued to praise the working environment created by filmmaker Tim Burton. “Tim was, you know, we had such a great bond, and he was able to recreate that even with all the buzz or anticipation. It still felt like we were somehow, like, under no studio presence. It might be a testament to the great producers, but we just felt this liberating, inspiring moment, like, ‘Oh, let’s try this,’ just this freedom because I trust him so much. I know he’s not going to use anything that doesn’t work.”

However, despite the excitement surrounding “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” fans probably shouldn’t get their hopes up for a third installment. Tim Burton mentioned in a recent interview that considering the three-and-a-half-decade gap between the first film and the sequel, another sequel is unlikely.

“Let’s do the math. It took 35 years to do this one,” Burton said. “For another, I’d be over 100 [years old]. It could be possible thanks to medical science. But I don’t think so.”

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” brings back the spooky and whimsical world that fans adore. The movie’s official description touches on the plot: “Beetlejuice is back! After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic, and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times, and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.”

The highly anticipated sequel, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” is set to debut in theaters on September 6th.
