Wiz Khalifa found himself in hot water after reportedly being charged with illegal drug possession for using marijuana while performing at the Beach Please! Festival on Saturday night.
According to Romanian anti-organized crime prosecutors DIICOT, they have initiated criminal proceedings against a defendant, who is a US citizen, for unlawful possession of risk drugs.
During his performance in the resort of Costinești, Constanța county, Khalifa was found with over 18 grams of cannabis and consumed another amount of cannabis on stage in the form of a craft cigarette.
As reported by Barron’s, the 10-time Grammy nominee, along with others, was taken in for questioning early Sunday. Although charged, Khalifa was released from custody.
A video shared online shows the “See You Again” rapper, 36, being escorted from the festival grounds by Romanian police officers.
In Romania, marijuana possession can be punished with up to 10 years in prison.
Following the incident, Khalifa, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, took to X to express he did not mean any disrespect to Romania by lighting up on stage. He mentioned the authorities were respectful and let him go, adding he would return to Romania, but without a big joint next time.
Khalifa is often open about his affinity for cannabis. In January, he confessed to showing up high to his son Sebastian’s parent-teacher conferences, sharing they expect it and know what’s up. He mentioned that being a parent who smokes weed isn’t looked down upon the same way it used to be.
Additionally, the “Work Hard, Play Hard” rapper, who shares 11-year-old Sebastian with ex-wife Amber Rose, joked about his son possibly smelling like weed.
The same month, Khalifa revealed in an interview with SkinBone that he smokes around 30 joints a day.
