Woman Enters Kitchen and Can’t Find Dog—Then She Spots It Up High

A woman in Indiana was left in fits of laughter after her boyfriend took an unusual approach to trim their dog’s nails.

Chrissy faced a challenging task with her dog Harlan, who has a significant aversion to nail trimming. To tackle this, she and her boyfriend, Johnny, decided to purchase a unique tool to ensure their safety during the process.

In a video shared on Chrissy’s TikTok account @bluegrass.brat on July 22, she demonstrated their solution: a special hammock designed to keep Harlan from biting while his nails were being cut.

Chrissy recounted to Newsweek how Johnny had called her into the kitchen to see something. Initially, she couldn’t find Harlan on the ground and was puzzled by Johnny’s call. Then, she looked up.

The video captures Chrissy in absolute hysterics at the sight of Harlan suspended above the kitchen counter in the dog hammock. Meanwhile, Johnny is also laughing uncontrollably, while Harlan hangs motionlessly, seemingly bewildered by the situation.

Chrissy and her boyfriend Johnny bought a “contraption” to stop Harlan from biting them while cutting his nails. When Chrissy saw where Johnny hung it she was left in bits.

Johnny was “on a mission to trim Harlan’s nails,” Chrissy told Newsweek, which motivated them to acquire the dog hammock. When Johnny called her over to the kitchen, Chrissy discovered Harlan “hanging from the ceiling being very still.” She couldn’t resist capturing the humorous scene on video.

The TikTok video became an instant hit, with an astonishing 54 million views and 7 million likes. Viewers couldn’t get enough of the hilarious situation, with one user joking, “Love the new chandelier, what brand is it?” Another user quipped, “He looks like he’s about to be sacrificed,” while others noted Harlan’s determined glare, suggesting he was “plotting his revenge.”

Chrissy explained to Newsweek that Johnny selected the kitchen counter for Harlan’s suspension because the ceiling hooks there were sturdy. While some people expressed concerns about using the kitchen for this task, Chrissy assured that the choice was purely for safety reasons.

Most importantly, the method worked. A follow-up video showed Johnny successfully trimming Harlan’s nails. While Harlan remained visibly displeased and somewhat motionless, he didn’t attempt to bite.

Six-year-old Harlan is not alone in his dislike for nail trimming. Many dogs, regardless of breed or age, experience high anxiety during the process. Even typically calm and gentle dogs may react aggressively.

This fear can stem from a previous traumatic or painful experience, or simply from the dog’s natural temperament. To mitigate this, dog owners are encouraged to introduce nail trimming early in the dog’s life.

According to the American Kennel Club, owners should prepare dogs for nail trimming by regularly handling their paws and making the experience enjoyable from a young age. Allowing the dog to smell and touch the nail clipper while rewarding them with treats and praise can help reduce anxiety.

While some dogs will tolerate nail trimming on a floor or lap, others, like Harlan, might necessitate some form of restraint for both the dog’s and the owner’s safety.
