Yankees Activate Anthony Rizzo from 60-Day Injured List

The New York Yankees have officially brought infielder Anthony Rizzo back from the 60-day injured list. This move occurred on Sunday, marking a significant step in Rizzo’s recovery journey.

Rizzo had been sidelined due to a right forearm fracture, which he sustained during a collision with Boston Red Sox pitcher Brennan Bernardino on June 16. His return to the lineup is eagerly anticipated by both fans and teammates.

Sunday also marked the first opportunity for teams in Major League Baseball to expand their rosters to 28 players. This allowed the Yankees to make several strategic adjustments to their roster.

Alongside Rizzo’s activation, the Yankees recalled outfielder Duke Ellis and right-handers Ron Marinaccio and Scott Effross from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In a corresponding move, left-hander Josh Maciejewski was designated for assignment.

These roster changes came just a day after the Yankees optioned right-hander Will Warren and first baseman/catcher Ben Rice back to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Such moves signal the Yankees’ commitment to optimizing their roster as the season progresses.

As for Rizzo, the 35-year-old is having a challenging season but remains a vital part of the team. He has played in 70 games so far, currently holding a batting average of .223 with eight home runs and 28 RBIs.

Throughout his career, Rizzo boasts a .262 batting average, accumulating 303 home runs and 958 RBIs over the span of 1,705 games. He has previously played for the San Diego Padres and the Chicago Cubs before joining the Yankees.

Duke Ellis, now back with the Yankees, is 26 years old and had a brief stint with the Chicago White Sox earlier this season, where he went 0-for-4 in eight games. His return adds depth to the Yankees’ outfield options.

Ron Marinaccio, 29, had made a strong impression earlier in the season, finishing with a 1-0 record and a 2.53 ERA across 14 relief appearances. Throughout his career with the Yankees, Marinaccio has a record of 6-5 and holds a 2.96 ERA in 99 relief appearances.

Scott Effross, at 30 years old, has also solidified his standing in the Yankees’ bullpen. In his career, he has accumulated a 3-5 record with four saves and a 2.78 ERA over 74 appearances, including one start between his time with the Chicago Cubs and the Yankees.

These roster moves illustrate the Yankees’ proactive approach as they navigate the latter part of the season. With Rizzo back in action and the added support of recalled players, the Yankees are looking to strengthen their performance as the competition heats up.
