Young Sheldon Star Sings Iconic Big Bang Song to Co-Star’s Baby

Like his Young Sheldon character, Montana Jordan recently welcomed a baby with his partner Jenna Weeks. Naturally, Iain Armitage couldn’t resist singing “Soft Kitty” from The Big Bang Theory the moment he met the baby.

Armitage posted a touching video on X (formerly Twitter), where he’s seen holding Jordan’s newborn and singing “Soft Kitty.” The baby’s soft coos complement Armitage’s singing, making it a heartwarming experience for any fan of The Big Bang Theory or Young Sheldon.

With the caption, “I got to meet Montana and Jenna’s sweet baby—introducing my gorgeous niece Emma Rae! I love her!” Armitage shared his joy and affection. It’s clear that the bond between Armitage and Jordan transcends their on-screen roles as brothers.

Seeing Armitage sing “Soft Kitty” is sure to evoke nostalgia among fans. This song originally became iconic in The Big Bang Theory when Sheldon (Jim Parsons) persuaded Penny (Kaley Cuoco) to sing it to him when he was sick. He mentions that his mother, Mary Cooper (played by Laurie Metcalf in The Big Bang Theory and Zoe Perry in Young Sheldon), would sing it to him.

In The Big Bang Theory, there was an episode where Metcalf’s version of Mary sings the lullaby to Sheldon. Young Sheldon further delves into the origins of this beloved song, featuring multiple instances of Mary singing it to her young son.

For those unfamiliar with the lyrics, they go: “Soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of fur / Happy kitty, sleepy kitty, purr, purr, purr.”

Young Sheldon, a spin-off prequel to The Big Bang Theory, explores the early life of Sheldon Cooper, portrayed by Iain Armitage. Jim Parsons, who originally brought the character to life, contributes as an executive producer and narrator for the prequel.

The series finale of Young Sheldon even brought Parsons back on-screen, alongside Mayim Bialik, to reprise their roles as present-day Sheldon and Amy. The finale reveals Sheldon is writing his memoir, which frames the recollections of his younger self in the series.

Young Sheldon, featuring Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord, and Annie Potts, concluded its seven-season run on May 16, 2024. It first premiered in September 2017 and has been cherished by fans all the way through its conclusion.

The end of Young Sheldon doesn’t spell the end for the franchise. A new spin-off, Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage, is set to premiere in fall 2024. This series will delve into the lives of Georgie (Jordan) and Mandy (Emily Osment) as they tackle the challenges of young parenthood.

Montana Jordan recently revealed that Zoe Perry, Annie Potts, and Raegan Revord will return as guest stars in the new spin-off. Whether Iain Armitage will reprise his role remains unclear, but it’s comforting to know the camaraderie between Jordan and Armitage remains strong. Jordan even entrusted Armitage with the precious task of holding his newborn, a gesture that highlights their real-life bond.
