YouTuber Calls Tesla Cybertruck His ‘Dream Car’ Despite 2 Malfunctions

Tesla’s Cybertruck hasn’t had a smooth rollout, and one owner has experienced more issues than most others. YouTuber Lamar MK, who runs a channel covering Tesla and EVs, shared his story with Business Insider, revealing that his “dream car” has been plagued with numerous glitches. Despite the problems, he holds onto his affection for the futuristic pickup.

Lamar, a Tesla shareholder, received his $100,000+ Foundation Series Cybertruck on March 14. “It was love at first sight,” said Lamar, who did not disclose his full name. Initially, his family wasn’t impressed, but they warmed up after seeing it in person.

Shortly after the delivery, the issues began. While filming a YouTube video, warning lights started flashing on the Cybertruck’s 18-inch central screen, forcing Lamar to pull over. “The truck just started to flash with this red screen, and it was totally devastating. It was just like, oh my god, what’s happening?” he said. His truck shut down completely, and it turned out the problem involved the truck’s wiring. As a result, the Cybertruck stayed in the repair shop for almost three weeks.

This was just the beginning. Lamar encountered several other issues, including a loud noise while driving and the Cybertruck not holding a charge during a road trip. “For the entire two months of having the truck, I only drove it for barely a week,” he said. However, his enthusiasm remained undeterred. “It’s still my dream car. When it works, it works. Driving it is the best experience you’ll ever have. But when it doesn’t work, it really sucks,” he added.

On his YouTube channel, Lamar praised the pickup’s “steer-by-wire” system, which gives it an intuitive driving feel. He also commented on the Cybertruck’s robust build, describing it as “like a tank,” and compared it to driving heavy equipment vehicles during his military service.

Eventually, Tesla replaced Lamar’s malfunctioning Cybertruck with a new one, which he personalized with a blue and yellow wrap. Yet, the new truck also failed him within weeks. After parking it in the garage and charging it, he found the vehicle completely unresponsive and inaccessible. “I spoke with Tesla roadside service; they said they couldn’t even access the vehicle. It was just completely offline to them. It was like a giant brick in my garage,” he said.

Once again, his new Cybertruck had to be towed to the Tesla service center, where technicians regained access to the vehicle by drilling a hole below the hood compartment.

Lamar’s experience isn’t unique. Since the Cybertruck began deliveries last November, there have been reports of various problems. In April, Tesla recalled nearly 4,000 Cybertrucks due to concerns about the accelerator pedal potentially jamming open. Last month, the automaker also issued recalls for over 11,000 Cybertrucks due to issues with the windshield wipers and a part of the truck bed that could come loose and fly off.

Currently, Lamar’s Cybertruck is operational again. Despite all the setbacks, he has no regrets about his purchase. “I still don’t have any regrets because it’s something that I really wanted; it’s so revolutionary. I know once they fix the issue, that issue won’t arise again,” he stated. Nonetheless, he remains cautious. “I just hope in the future, no more problems creep up. At this point, I’m really wondering; am I cursed?”

Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider, made outside normal working hours.
