Yves Bissouma Apologizes for ‘Severe Lack of Judgment’ After Using Laughing Gas

Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma has issued an apology after a video surfaced showing him appearing to inhale laughing gas.

The video, shared on Snapchat, captured the 27-year-old inhaling from a balloon following Spurs’ 3-2 pre-season defeat against Bayern Munich on Saturday.

Last year, the Government classified nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, as a Class C drug. Possession of the drug for recreational use is now a criminal offence and may result in a two-year prison sentence.

“I want to apologise for these videos. This was a severe lack of judgment,” Bissouma stated.

“I understand how serious this is and the health risks involved, and I also take my responsibility as a footballer and role model very seriously.”

Tottenham Hotspur released a statement, as reported by the BBC, saying, “We are looking into the events. This will be dealt with as an internal matter.”

Bissouma had joined Spurs from Brighton for £30m in 2022 and participated in the first half of Spurs’ friendly against Bayern earlier that Saturday.

The same match marked the return of Harry Kane and Eric Dier to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first time since transferring to Germany.

Additionally, on the same day, Spurs finalized the £65m signing of Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke.

With the new season just days away, Ange Postecoglou’s side is set to start with a trip to newly promoted Leicester City on August 19.

Last season, Bissouma started 26 games in the Premier League and hopes that this incident does not affect his chances of adding to that number this season.
