Zac Efron Shares Positive Health Update After Hospitalization Scare

After being hospitalized in Spain following a swimming pool incident, Zac Efron has given fans a reassuring health update, indicating he is on the mend after the scare.

Using his Instagram Story, Efron posted a photo of himself lifting dumbbells while balanced on an exercise ball, captioned, “Happy and healthy — thanks for the well wishes.” In case the story expired, the photo was also shared by @Team_ZacEfron on X (formerly Twitter).

On August 3, TMZ reported that Efron was hospitalized due to a “minor” swimming pool incident. His representative later clarified that the hospital visit was a “purely precautionary measure.”

The initial reports mentioned that Efron was found inside a swimming pool by two workers at the villa, who then pulled him out of the water and rushed him to the hospital. Fortunately, TMZ also noted that he was released from the hospital that morning and is doing well.

Before the incident, Zac Efron had been enjoying life in Europe. He was photographed in Ibiza, St. Tropez, Mykonos, and Paris over the past month. Additionally, he made an appearance on stage during a recent show with Martin Garrix.

Early in his career, Efron gained prominence for his roles in Summerland, with his major breakthrough coming in High School Musical in 2006. He went on to star in two sequels, including High School Musical 3: Senior Year, which grossed over $250 million worldwide.

After his breakout as a teenage heartthrob, Efron began landing more significant movie roles, including Me and Orson Welles, 17 Again, and The Lorax. Throughout the 2010s, he was featured in various comedic movies such as Neighbors, That Awkward Moment, Dirty Grandpa, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, and Baywatch.

In 2017, he starred in The Greatest Showman alongside Hugh Jackman and Zendaya. More recently, starting in 2022, Efron began to delve into dramatic roles, featuring in films like Gold, Firestarter, and The Greatest Beer Run Ever.

Last year, Efron took on the role of Kevin Von Erich in Sean Durkin’s The Iron Claw, a biopic about the legendary professional wrestling family, the Von Erichs. Efron starred alongside Jeremy Allen White and Harris Dickinson, who played his brothers Kerry and David Von Erich, respectively.

Maura Tierney, Holt McCallany, and Lily James featured in the movie, while Maxwell Friedman, better known as MJF to AEW fans, also appeared. Fellow professional wrestlers Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Ryan Nemeth had roles in the film as well.

In 2024, Efron ventured back into comedy with Ricky Stanicky, directed by Peter Farrelly. The comedy featured a star-studded cast including William H. Macy and John Cena. He also starred in the rom-com A Family Affair, with Nicole Kidman and Joey King. Richard LaGravenese directed the movie, based on a script by Carrie Solomon, and Netflix released it on June 28.

Additionally, Efron is the host of the documentary series Down to Earth with Zac Efron. The series ran from July 2020 to November 2022 on Netflix and followed Efron as he traveled the world to explore different cultures.
