Zach Top Joins Lainey Wilson to Cover Johnny Paycheck’s “Take This Job and Shove It”

That’s some damn fine country music right there. If you’re not already on the Zach Top bandwagon, you’re missing out on one of the best old-school country artists out there right now. With his traditional honky-tonk sound and killer songs like “Sounds Like the Radio” and “I Never Lie,” the future is bright for this Nashville newcomer – and that means the future is bright for traditional country music.

Lainey Wilson is another artist who has blown up over the past couple of years with her distinctive “Bell Bottom Country” style. She has won Entertainer of the Year at both the CMA and ACM Awards and is currently headlining her own tour, “Country’s Cool Again.” She’s taken Zach Top along for the ride.

During her performances, Lainey has been treating fans to a mashup of some classic country hits. These include timeless tracks like Hank Williams’ “Hey Good Lookin’,” Loretta Lynn’s “You Ain’t Woman Enough to Take My Man,” and Randy Travis’ “Forever and Ever, Amen.”

At her recent show at the Orion Amphitheatre in Huntsville, Alabama, Lainey brought Zach back on stage to cover another country classic, “Take This Job and Shove It” by Johnny Paycheck. This song, penned by David Allan Coe, was initially pitched to George Jones before Paycheck personally called to request recording it. Coe, despite not knowing who Paycheck was, agreed to the recording. However, he later got annoyed when people thought Paycheck had written the song. In response, Coe released his own song, “Take This Job and Shove It Too,” including a lyrical shot at Paycheck.

Paycheck’s version of “Take This Job and Shove It” was a massive hit, reaching #1 on the charts and becoming one of his signature songs. Zach Top and Lainey Wilson together delivered a powerful rendition of this classic track.
