Zoë Kravitz is currently in discussions to join Austin Butler in Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing , The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The movie is adapted from Charlie Huston’s book of the same name, with Huston also taking on scriptwriting duties. The storyline centers on Hank Thompson, a disillusioned former baseball player who unexpectedly finds himself in a desperate battle for survival within the gritty criminal underworld of 1990s New York City.

Aronofsky’s production company, Protozoa Pictures, based in New York, is behind the film. The production team includes Ari Handel, longtime collaborator with Aronofsky. Their previous projects together span several notable films, including π, Requiem For A Dream, The Fountain, The Wrestler, Black Swan, Noah , mother! and The Whale . Recent endeavors from this production house also include The Good Nurse by Tobias Lindholm, Pablo Larrain’s Jackie , Lance Oppenheim’s Some Kind Of Heaven , Josef Kobuta Wladyka’s Catch the Fair One , and Alex Pritz’s documentary The Territory .

News surfaced in March that Butler had been cast as the lead in Caught Stealing . This followed his performance as a villain in Dune: Part Two , an Oscar nomination for Elvis , and his leading role in The Bikeriders .

“I am excited to be teaming up with my old friends at Sony Pictures to bring Charlie’s adrenaline-soaked roller-coaster ride to life,” Aronofsky shared in a statement when Butler’s casting was announced. “I can’t wait to start working with Austin and my family of NYC filmmakers.”

This film precedes Kravitz’s own directorial debut, Blink Twice , which will star her fiancé, Channing Tatum. Kravitz’s recent notable roles include appearances in The Batman, Kimi, High Fidelity , and Big Little Lies .

Kravitz is represented by CAA, Untitled Entertainment, attorney Bill Sobel at Edelstein, Laird & Sobel, and The Oriel.
