16 individuals arrested during pro-Palestine encampment demonstration at UGA campus | Campus News

Sixteen University of Georgia students and Athens community members were arrested by UGA police for protesting in support of Palestine on April 29. The demonstrators refused to leave the Old College front lawn on North Campus, violating UGA’s Freedom of Expression Policy. UGA police warned them of “criminal trespass” charges before making arrests. Demonstrators yelled at officers and accused them of mistreatment. Those arrested were taken to Athens-Clarke County Jail. The protest was part of a nationwide movement in support of Palestine involving hundreds of college students. The protesters were upset by the treatment they received, especially on a university campus.
