7 Must-Watch Characters in ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2

Halfway through “House of the Dragon” Season 2, the Dance of the Dragons civil war continues to rage with many casualties along the way.

Key characters on both sides have been lost. Rhaenys (Eve Best), Luke (Elliot Grihault), and Erryk (Elliot Tittensor) for the Blacks, and Arryk (Luke Tittensor), and possibly Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) for the Greens. New characters and fighters are stepping up to fill the ranks, and the show has already introduced several potential players. Here are the new faces you should keep an eye on moving forward in “House of the Dragon.”

Cregan Stark (Tom Taylor), known as the Wolf of the North, is the Lord of Winterfell and the head of House Stark during the Dance of the Dragons. He was first introduced in the Season 2 premiere when Prince Jace (Harry Collett) visited The Wall, trying to convince the North to side with Rhaenyra. Cregan agreed to support Jace’s mother, signaling his future importance in the war, though his appearance in the rest of Season 2 may be limited.

Alyn of Hull (Abubakar Salim) is a sailor who saved Lord Corlys (Steve Toussaint) from drowning at the end of the first season. Their relationship is significant beyond this life-saving act; it’s revealed in Episode 4 that Alyn is one of Corlys’ bastards. Unlike many in his situation, Rhaenys (Eve Best) suggests raising Alyn’s status rather than hiding him.

Addam (Clinton Liberty) is Alyn’s older brother and also one of Corlys’ bastards. Addam openly talks about how Corlys owes them both, more than just being hidden as dockworkers. With dragonrider blood, Addam and his younger brother have the potential to make a significant impact. Addam is particularly taken by Seasmoke, Laenor’s dragon left alone on Driftmark.

Alys Rivers (Gayle Rankin) is a bastard of House Strong and possibly the daughter of Lyonel Strong, making her the half-sister to Harwin and Larys. Initially a wet nurse at Harrenhal, she became a caretaker there after the fire incident. Rumored to be a witch, her nights with Daemon (Matt Smith) in the haunted keep suggest she has more to reveal.

Hugh Hammer (Kieran Bew), another dragonseed, made a brief appearance at the beginning of Season 2, seeking Aegon’s (Tom Glynn-Carney) help in funding dragon-killing weapons. Although details about his character are still sparse, his dragonrider lineage promises an important role in the conflict.

Ulf the White (Tom Bennett) is among the few dragonseeds who boasts of his lineage. Claiming his grandfather was Jaehaerys the Conciliator – the king before Viserys (Paddy Considine) – Ulf’s dragonrider blood makes him crucial to the ongoing war.

Gwayne Hightower (Freddie Fox) is the brother of Queen Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and the youngest son of Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans). Gwayne arrives in King’s Landing to bolster Criston Cole’s (Fabien Frankely) efforts in the riverlands.

As the war continues, these new characters will likely become pivotal to the unfolding drama in “House of the Dragon.”
