A$AP Rocky Drops New Single ‘Tailor Swif’

A$AP Rocky is channeling his inner Swiftie with his new single, “Tailor Swif,” although not in the way you might expect from the Eras tour. He first introduced the song during his 2022 festival circuit, at a time when fans still believed its title was “Taylor Swift.” Despite leaks of both the track and its video, Rocky delayed the official release until now.

The lyrical content of “Tailor Swif” showcases Rocky’s signature style. “Eatin’ lamb chops on the block when we was broke/Even when I was po’, I was out here, eatin’ goats/Mary had a lil’ lamb, but my mama need a coat/Yeah, I had a shearling and a Gucci link at four years old,” he raps in the song’s second verse. The chorus holds a playful nod to the pop superstar: “I’m too swift, don’t tell Taylor about this shit/I’m too swift, now don’t tell Taylor ’bout this shit/Go to my tailor, got me dripped like/Go to my tailor, got me dripped up in the district.”

“Tailor Swif” adds another layer to Rocky’s teasing of his upcoming album, “Don’t Be Dumb.” Although a firm release date isn’t set yet, Rocky has kept fans engaged with other tantalizing snippets, such as the single “Highjack” featuring Jessica Pratt. In recent performances, including appearances at Rolling Loud Miami and Rolling Loud Portugal, he has also treated audiences to yet-to-be-released tracks.

When asked about the creative inspirations for “Tailor Swif,” Rocky pointed to abstract European art. “We are coming with a whole new aesthetic on everything, especially with German expressionism and the whole ghetto futurism grim thing,” the Harlem-born artist explained in an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1.

It’s been a while since Rocky’s fans had a full-length album from him. His last studio effort, “Testing,” came out back in 2018, leaving a significant gap between substantial projects.
