Actress Leaves Hollywood for New Life in Michigan and Loves It

Heather Matarazzo, although not a household name, is a face you’ve likely seen in various films and television shows. Known for her role as Lilly in “The Princess Diaries,” she has also been part of notable movies like “The Devil’s Advocate,” “Welcome to the Dollhouse,” and “Scream.” On TV, she has appeared in popular series such as “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Now and Again,” and “The L Word.” Matarazzo’s career boasts an impressive resume, though it hasn’t always been an easy journey.

In a 2017 interview with The Guardian, Matarazzo revealed the struggles she faced in the entertainment industry. She said, “An independent project runs for two to three weeks at most, and we get paid $125 for the day, that’s after working for 16-18 hours. And I’m thinking, all I want to be able to do is pay rent, create, and bring about stories to the world that need to be told.”

She even considered driving for Lyft to make ends meet, highlighting the difficulties of affording a life in Los Angeles. The significantly lower cost of living in Michigan presented a viable alternative for her. Heather Matarazzo’s wife, Heather Turman, who is a comedian, writer, and film producer, is originally from Michigan, which influenced their decision to move.

In a recent TikTok video, Matarazzo explained their move to Michigan, which involves a more relaxed lifestyle. When she’s not busy mowing her lawn or enjoying cherries in Michigan, she’s in Dublin filming for the second season of the Netflix series “Wednesday.”

Having lived only in New York and Los Angeles prior to this, Matarazzo is likely adjusting to Michigan’s unique lifestyle. The couple’s relocation is emblematic of a growing trend among individuals seeking a more affordable and less hectic life outside major metropolitan areas.

While the specifics of Matarazzo’s transition to a quieter life in Michigan remain personal, the overarching theme is evident: the appeal of a more grounded and sustainable way of living. As she continues her acting career, her new surroundings might offer fresh inspiration and a renewed sense of purpose.
