AEW to Release Documentary on All In 2023 Backstage Events

AEW has announced the launch of a new video series on their YouTube channel, set to begin next week. The series, titled AEW Stories, will premiere with footage from the highly memorable wrestling event of 2023, AEW All In. This event attracted an impressive crowd of 80,000 fans to Wembley Stadium in London, England, marking record-breaking achievements for both AEW and the wrestling industry at large. However, the night had its share of controversies, notably the backstage altercation between CM Punk and Jack Perry, which ultimately resulted in Punk’s dismissal from AEW. It remains unclear whether the documentary-style series will address this incident or choose to leave it out.

Earlier this year, AEW aired footage depicting the heated exchange between Perry and Punk, allegedly spurred by Perry’s remarks about the use of glass in his pre-show match against HOOK. Punk was scheduled to open the show against Samoa Joe shortly afterwards, resulting in his memorable smirk during his entrance. Despite completing his match without any issues, Punk was released from his contract by AEW a week later, ahead of AEW All Out in Chicago.

The wrestling community was taken by surprise when Punk made his return to WWE at last year’s Survivor Series, where he has been a regular feature on television since. Punk is currently embroiled in an intense feud with Drew McIntyre, which shows no signs of abating following their clash at WWE SummerSlam. Meanwhile, Perry is engaged in a storyline with The Elite — the Young Bucks and Kazuchika Okada. As the TNT Champion, he is set to defend his title against Darby Allin at this year’s All In event.

In a teaser released on social media, Matthew and Nicholas Jackson, Kenny Omega, and “Hangman” Adam Page reflect on the significance of that night and its impact on the wrestling landscape, akin to the original All In event in 2018. That event was independently produced by the Bucks and Cody Rhodes. The first episode of AEW Stories is set to premiere on Monday, August 19, at 12 p.m. ET on AEW’s YouTube channel, just days before this year’s All In event.

According to WrestleTix’s latest update on August 8, AEW has already sold over 45,000 tickets for this year’s All In, with a setup accommodating 51,314 attendees. Unlike last year, this event will spotlight several high-profile women’s matches. “Timeless” Toni Storm, the Women’s World Champion, will defend her title against her former mentee Mariah May, who aims to establish herself as a rising star in AEW.

Additionally, Bryan Danielson is set to face off against Swerve Strickland for the World Championship as his storied in-ring career approaches its conclusion. Among the other matches to look forward to is the highly anticipated bout between Mercedes Moné and Britt Baker, who will be clashing for the first time. Moné was merely a spectator at last year’s event but is now stepping into the ring to compete.

Fans eagerly await these exciting developments and matches that promise to further elevate AEW’s standing in the wrestling world.
