America’s Got Talent is taking a brief hiatus as NBC and Peacock direct their focus towards comprehensive coverage of the Paris Olympics. Tuesday’s episode, wrapping up the Season 19 auditions, certainly left viewers with a lot to mull over during the break.

At the conclusion of the two-hour broadcast, host Terry Crews made a game-changing announcement regarding this year’s live shows. “For the first time ever in America’s Got Talent history, the Golden Buzzer is about to go live,” Crews shared. “One more from each judge will send acts straight to the finals. This summer, anything can happen.”

In essence, when AGT returns on Aug. 13, each of the four judges will have another Golden Buzzer at their disposal. This gives them the unprecedented power to send an act straight to the finals, independent of the audience’s votes.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first Golden Buzzer twist introduced in Season 19. During auditions, each judge was given two buzzers, while Crews retained his single buzzer. This alteration allowed the judges to send nine acts directly to the live shows.

Simon Cowell used his Golden Buzzers for singer Liv Warfield and drone group Sky Elements. Heidi Klum awarded hers to singers Richard Goodall and Pranysqa Mishra. Howie Mandel chose dance group Brent Street and young singer Reid Wilson. Sofia Vergara advanced dance group Legión and comedy duo Schumacher. Meanwhile, Terry Crews gave his Golden Buzzer to comedian Learnmore Jonasi.

With the live shows on the horizon, fans eagerly await the return of their favorite acts who’ve already impressed during the auditions.
