Aircraft makes emergency landing in river near Fairbanks, Alaska

A Douglas C-54 Skymaster airplane crashed into the Tanana River near Fairbanks, Alaska, bursting into flames and resulting in no survivors being found. The plane had taken off from Fairbanks International Airport in the morning and crashed about 7 miles away. The cause of the crash is still unclear. Witnesses saw a large plume of smoke after the crash. A passenger flying from Galena to Fairbanks to catch a flight to New Orleans was diverted to verify the crash site’s coordinates. The plane was identified as a Douglas C-54, a military version of the DC-4 airplane. The NTSB was sending investigators to the site for further information.
