Al Roker Teases Famous Family Crossover on ‘Today’—Fans Will Be Stunned

Al Roker has every reason to be excited, as he hinted that a famous family member might soon make an appearance on Today.

While Sheinelle Jones filled in for Carson Daly during the Popstart announcements, she revealed a roster of musicians slated to visit the studio in August and September. Among the big names mentioned were LL Cool J, Khalid, Keith Urban, and none other than Lenny Kravitz.

“Big week in September – Lenny Kravitz,” Sheinelle announced, noting he would perform on September 12, 2024 – a Thursday.

The news of the rockstar’s performance generated excitement, prompting Craig Melvin to exclaim, “Your cousin!”

Al responded with enthusiasm, saying: “My cuz! My cuz!” His excitement was mirrored by his colleagues Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie, Craig, and Sheinelle, who all shared in the moment.

Indeed, Lenny Kravitz and Al Roker are related, being paternal second cousins. The connection between them became public back in 2011. Al revealed that their grandparents were cousins, to which Lenny added: “We both have Roker. My mother was Roxie Roker, my grandfather, Albert Roker from the Bahamas. Has to be.”

Lenny is the son of actress Roxie Roker, who is best known for her role as Helen Willis on the iconic show The Jeffersons.

When the familial link first came to light, Al remarked, “All I know is I’m going with it. The kids think it’s cool.”

Since then, Lenny and Al have reunited multiple times on Today. During a 2020 appearance, Sheinelle asked Lenny what it felt like to be a rockstar. He humorously responded, “Ask Al Roker. Al Roker knows what it’s like to be a rock star because he is one.”

Al, in turn, quipped, “I learned from you, cuz. Thanks so much.”

The cousinly bond clearly includes mutual admiration. Al recently shared a photo of Lenny on Instagram, showcasing the rocker in an extravagant outfit with thigh-high boots and a rope-like bodice. Al captioned the photo, “And this is why I have to check my #cuzzins Insta before I go out. I was gonna wear this exact outfit this morning. Now I gotta go back upstairs and change. I hate when you do that, @lennykravitz.”

To which Lenny responded, “You would clearly outdo me, cuz. I appreciate you.”
