Alaska mountain fall claims one climber’s life and seriously injures another after 1,000-foot drop

One person is dead, and another is seriously injured after falling about 1,000 feet while climbing Mt. Johnson in Denali National Park, Alaska. The climbers were on a part of the mountain called “The Escalator,” navigating steep rock, ice, and snow. Another climbing party witnessed the fall and alerted authorities. The injured climber received care throughout the night before being airlifted to a hospital. Recovery efforts for the deceased climber were delayed due to weather conditions. The National Park Service will release the climber’s identity after notifying their family.
