Americans sentenced to 12 years in prison in Turks and Caicos for possession of ammunition

Multiple Americans are facing minimum 12-year prison sentences for unknowingly having ammunition in their luggage while returning from Turks and Caicos. Ryan Watson and Tyler Wenrich were arrested for having bullets in their luggage while leaving the island. Watson, celebrating a friend’s birthday, faces a minimum of 12 years in prison if he doesn’t get justice. Watson’s wife was also arrested, but released. Watson is out on bail but cannot leave Turks and Caicos until his trial. Wenrich, also facing 12 years, got through TSA security in the U.S. without issues. Both are legal gun owners. Embassy warns of harsh penalties for bringing firearms or ammunition to Turks and Caicos. Watson and Wenrich are set to appear in court on June 7.
