Ángel Salazar — famous for portraying Al Pacino‘s trusted sidekick “Chi Chi” in “Scarface” — was in the middle of filming an indie spin-off of the iconic gangster movie when he passed away. We’ve got a first look at him in action.
Director Eric Spade Rivas told TMZ that Ángel appeared fatigued while shooting scenes in New Jersey in April. Nonetheless, Ángel was preparing to film additional scenes later this year in Miami.
The movie, titled “The Brooklyn Premiere,” features Steven Bauer, who portrays Manny Ribera in the original “Scarface.” The film revolves around a Brooklyn film director experiencing a midlife crisis who sets out to create a “Scarface” parody comedy to revive his career.
TMZ obtained a few clips featuring Ángel alongside Steven Bauer.
Eric mentioned that he’s known Ángel for 12 years and plans to move forward with the film, believing that’s what Ángel would have wanted.
TMZ reported that 69-year-old Ángel passed away in his sleep over the weekend at a friend’s home in Brooklyn, coincidentally the setting of the movie.
Eric said that Ángel was one of the funniest people he’s ever known and felt fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with him.
