Anoka-Hennepin school officials declare end to budget stalemate

The Anoka-Hennepin Public Schools budget was at a standstill as board treasurer Matt Audette refused to support it due to policies on gender and racial equity. After a long six-hour work session, board members reached an agreement to remove the obstacles holding up the passage of the 2024-25 budget. The threat of a shutdown is now over, allowing the board to continue planning for the next year. However, the district is still facing financial challenges with a deficit and plans to make $25 million in cuts over the next two years. Students, parents, and residents showed up to express their opinions on the issue at a recent board meeting.
