Arizona House approves bill to repeal 1864 abortion ban, maintaining 15-week limit

The Arizona House of Representatives voted to repeal the state’s 160-year-old abortion ban, keeping the 15-week restriction in place. Three Republicans joined Democrats in advancing the legislation, with the state Senate and Governor expected to follow suit. The ban was revived by the State Supreme Court in April, drawing mixed reactions from lawmakers. A repeal failure could enforce the 1864 law as early as June 8, but neighboring California offered to provide abortions for Arizona patients. Democrats plan to continue emphasizing abortion policy in upcoming elections, aiming to protect reproductive freedoms through legislative changes.
