Arizona House votes to repeal 1864 abortion ban, upholding 15-week limit

The Arizona House of Representatives voted to overturn the state’s 160-year-old abortion ban, keeping the 15-week restriction in place. Despite the Supreme Court’s revival of the ban, three Republicans joined Democrats to advance the legislation. If the repeal fails in the Senate, the ban could take effect in June, making Arizona one of the few states with strict abortion laws. A Democratic bill in California aims to provide care for Arizona patients if the ban is repealed. Abortion rights advocates are pushing for a constitutional amendment to protect access to abortion up to 22-24 weeks of pregnancy.
