Arizona rancher accused of killing unarmed migrant will have mistrial declared by judge

A mistrial was declared in the case of 75-year-old Arizona rancher George Alan Kelly, charged with fatally shooting a migrant on his property near the U.S.-Mexico border. Kelly was accused of second-degree murder and aggravated assault in the shooting of Gabriel Cuen-Buitimea. The prosecution claimed Kelly recklessly fired his AK-47, while the defense argued he was protecting himself and his wife. Jurors visited Kelly’s ranch, where shell casings were found. Text messages allegedly showed Kelly’s state of mind before the shooting. The defense claimed another person in the group shot Cuen-Buitimea, while prosecutors pointed out inconsistencies in Kelly’s statements.
