The mayor of Atlantic City and his wife have been accused of abusing their teenage daughter after allegedly beating her unconscious with a broom, according to a report.
Mayor Marty Small Sr., 50, and his wife La’Quetta, 47, were charged Monday with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed.
Marty Small is also charged with third-degree terroristic threats and third-degree aggravated assault. In addition, the couple has been accused of simple assault against persons disturbing public order.
La’Quetta Small is the superintendent of Atlantic City Public Schools.
The teenager, who has not been identified, was allegedly abused on multiple occasions between December 2023 and January 2024, when she was 15 and 16 years old.
Marty Small hit his daughter several times in the head with a broom, causing her to lose consciousness, investigators revealed to NBC News.
In another incident, while the 50-year-old mayor was arguing with his daughter, he threatened to throw her down the stairs after grabbing her by the head and throwing her to the ground, investigators added.
Officials also revealed that Marty Small had repeatedly hit his daughter on the legs, causing bruises. La’Quetta Small was accused of hitting her daughter several times in the chest and turning her blue.
