Baltimore asserts that Dali was not seaworthy prior to bridge collapse

Attorneys for the city of Baltimore filed court documents asserting that the owner of the container ship involved in the Key Bridge collapse should not be able to avoid liability, as the vessel was deemed “unseaworthy” when it left port. The collapse, which resulted in the death of six construction workers, was blamed on negligence by the ship’s crew and shoreside management. The city opposed the owner’s attempt to cap liability at $43.6 million and cited evidence of fault. The city also accused the ship’s owners of inadequate training, failure to follow safety procedures, and lack of proper equipment. Investigations by the NTSB, Coast Guard, and FBI are ongoing.
