Biden, Harris, and Trump to Visit Flight 93 National Memorial Today

Today marks the somber 23rd anniversary of the tragic events that unfolded on September 11, 2001, a day forever etched in the memory of the nation.

To commemorate this significant day, President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and former President Donald Trump are expected to gather in Pennsylvania to honor the lives lost during the attacks.

The Flight 93 National Memorial, located in rural Somerset County, approximately an hour from Pittsburgh, stands as a poignant reminder of the courage displayed by the passengers and crew aboard United Airlines Flight 93. On that fateful day, the determined individuals aboard this flight chose to confront their hijackers, leading to the plane crashing in a field instead of its presumed destination—the U.S. Capitol.

Flight 93 was one of four aircraft hijacked by terrorists that morning. While two planes were flown into the World Trade Center towers in New York City and a third struck the Pentagon, Flight 93 was thwarted in its mission thanks to the bravery of forty innocent lives, who ultimately lost their lives in this struggle.

In honoring these heroes, today’s public events at the Flight 93 National Memorial will commence with the 23rd observance of the Moment of Remembrance at 9:45 a.m. in the Memorial Plaza.

During this solemn ceremony, the names of the passengers and crew members will be read aloud, accompanied by the ringing of bells. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, allowing ample time for parking and transit to the memorial site. The event is free and open to the public, inviting all who wish to pay their respects.

This afternoon, President Biden and Vice President Harris will take part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Flight 93 National Memorial. President Biden expressed his sentiments regarding the heroes who fought against terror, stating that they demonstrated “absolute courage” and that their actions undoubtedly saved countless American lives.

Before arriving in Pennsylvania, both Biden and Harris will participate in a commemoration program at Ground Zero in New York City at 8:30 this morning. In her remarks, Harris emphasized the importance of unity among Americans, reflecting on the privilege shared by all citizens of the United States.

They are expected to land in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, around 11:30 a.m. The wreath-laying ceremony is scheduled for 12:45 p.m., and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro will also be in attendance to honor the occasion.

Former President Trump is also slated to visit the Flight 93 National Memorial today. Reports indicate that he plans to arrive in the afternoon, partaking in a private wreath-laying ceremony of his own. Prior to heading to Pennsylvania, Trump intends to visit both the 9/11 memorial and a fire station in New York City—all of which serve to underline the enduring memory of that tragic day.

As the nation comes together to remember the events of 2021, the courage and sacrifice exhibited by those involved in Flight 93 will forever be honored and remembered. This day serves as a reminder of how precious life is and the strength of unity in the wake of tragedy.
