Billy Ray Cyrus’ estranged wife Firerose is bringing forth new allegations of verbal and emotional abuse against him. In a recent interview with Page Six, she detailed a pattern of controlling behavior, deceit, and manipulation that she says began long before the couple wed in October 2023.
Firerose alleges that their relationship started before Cyrus had officially ended things with his then-wife Tish. Despite this, she claims she was unaware that he and Tish were still together at the time.
Page Six reports that Cyrus suggested the possibility of a romantic relationship with Firerose in 2020. This was around the time he asked her to perform a duet with him on a rendition of Tanya Tucker’s “Delta Dawn.” They had first met over a decade earlier on the set of Hannah Montana, where Cyrus’ daughter, Miley Cyrus, played the lead role.
“Every day he told me, ‘I’m getting divorced,’ but he said it was complicated because of the kids, and they had been married for so long,” Firerose recounts. “I just accepted everything he told me to be true.”
She explains that their relationship began before they released their duet “A New Day” in April 2021, but says Cyrus asked her to keep it a secret. A year later, in an unexpected twist, Cyrus and Tish announced their divorce. Firerose says this news shocked her as she believed their marriage had already ended.
“I would never, ever have entered into a relationship with a married man, but he was such a great manipulator,” Firerose states.
During the same interview, Firerose alleges that Cyrus imposed “very strict rules” on her throughout their relationship. She claims she had to read texts and emails aloud to him for approval before sending them.
“I didn’t have a car. I was only allowed to go to the local chiropractor and allowed once a month to get my nails done,” she elaborates. “It was systemic isolation, and I couldn’t find the courage to leave.”
Firerose also shares that just two days before their wedding on October 10, 2023, the stress from Cyrus’ controlling behavior became unbearable. It triggered severe migraines, causing her to pass out and seek hospital care. According to her, Cyrus accused her of “causing a circus” after her hospital visit.
The contentious proceedings in their divorce have involved mutual accusations of abuse. While Firerose describes verbal and emotional abuse, Cyrus has accused her of financial abuse and dishonesty about her previous marital status. He has also filed a restraining order against her.
