Brown University encampment concludes, Corporation to vote on divesting from Israel in October

The highest governing body at Brown University, The Corporation, will vote in October on divestment from companies related to Israel. This decision follows an agreement between encampment organizers and University administrators, where the encampment will be cleared by 5 p.m. today. The encampment was set up to call for divestment and the dropping of charges against 41 arrested students. President Paxson offered a meeting with Corporation members in May, and the new agreement includes a proposal submission deadline for divestment by September 30. The decision comes after months of demonstrations and a BUCC meeting where motions in favor of divestment were approved. Charges against the 41 arrested students will not be dropped.
