California superintendent loses job after allegedly making threats against students who did not clap for her daughter

A California superintendent was terminated from the school district after an investigation into her conduct. Students of Del Norte High School softball team alleged that Poway Unified School District Superintendent Marian Kim Phelps threatened their graduation privileges over a perceived slight towards her daughter. Phelps allegedly accused the students of not clapping for her daughter at an awards banquet and threatened to revoke their graduation privileges if they didn’t apologize. Coach Tom Peronto reported Phelps’ abuse of power to the board, resulting in his firing from coaching. The school board voted to terminate Phelps’ contract following an investigation that uncovered discrepancies in her accounts. Phelps denied the allegations, and a lawsuit was filed against her accusing her of fabricating stories to harm a student’s reputation.
