Carrie Underwood’s Issue with Being a Judge

Carrie Underwood’s triumphant return to American Idol as a judge carries one significant hurdle. She recently revealed this challenge, which could cause issues as she re-enters the show that catapulted her career.

As she takes her place behind the judge’s table on American Idol, Carrie Underwood faces a major obstacle: the inability to play nice easily.

In a conversation with ABC News, Underwood admitted, “I do have a big problem. I can’t lie.” This could be problematic as she attempts to balance professional honesty with a compassionate touch in her new role.

Underwood elaborated, “I just can’t. You can tell. I feel like I’ll be very honest, but hopefully, I can be very constructive and encouraging.”

The singer discussed her American Idol return after performing on Good Morning America’s concert series. “There are many people still working on the show who were there when I was a contestant,” she said.

She continued, “I hope that being on both sides of the coin, I can offer some insight and help.” However, for those expecting to see a harsh side of the country superstar, she clarified that’s not her style at all.

“Just ask my kids,” quipped Underwood, referring to her two children, Isaiah, 9, and Jacob, 5, whom she shares with her husband, Mike Fisher.

Carrie Underwood originally auditioned for American Idol during Season 4 as an aspiring singer. At 21, she decided to chase her dreams of fame and fortune, a journey she had always been passionate about.

“I remember being at home in our little house in Checotah and seeing on TV that there were auditions in St. Louis,” Underwood mentioned in a video shared on Instagram. “My mom said, ‘If you wanna go, I’ll drive you.’”

She went from being relatively unknown to having millions of viewers rooting for her on the show. “I’m proud of everything that I was able to accomplish on the show, and I’m so proud of everything that I’ve accomplished since. Even if I go far away, this is my home,” Underwood added.

Since her Idol days, Underwood has become an award-winning, multimillion-selling recording artist, entrepreneur, and author—achievements she might not have reached without stepping onto the Idol stage.

The upcoming season of American Idol, hosted by Ryan Seacrest, returns in spring 2025 on ABC and Hulu.
