According to CBS, the new spinoff prequel NCIS: Origins will debut on Tuesday, October 14, at 9 p.m. Eastern Time. It will immediately follow the original series, known as “The Mothership” by the network. This new show occupies the time slot previously held by the now-canceled Hawaii.

For those who miss the live airing, each episode will be available to stream on Paramount+ the following day.

The show is set in 1991 and follows Leroy Jethro Gibbs as he begins his career as a new agent at the Camp Pendleton office. This era is portrayed without the advanced technology seen in today’s world, making the investigative work old-school. Mike Franks leads the team, mentoring the young Gibbs and shaping him into the iconic agent well-known to fans.

Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North, the show’s co-showrunners, have shared that even the most ardent NCIS fans will discover new aspects of Gibbs’ story they didn’t previously know.

As for the cast, Mark and Sean Harmon will not be starring. Instead, they hold executive production roles, with Mark also taking on the role of narrator for the series. Austin Stowell takes on the role of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, while Kyle Schmid portrays a young Mike Franks. Mariel Molino, Diany Rodriguez, and Tyla Abercrumbie play the roles of Special Agent Lala Dominguez, Special Agent Vera Strickland, and Field Operation Support Officer Mary Jo Sullivan, respectively.

The dynamic between Dominguez and Gibbs is described as having some “sparks,” while Strickland is depicted as a “no-nonsense, sharp-witted Brooklynite.” Abercrumbie’s character has a maternal presence, dubbing herself the HSIC – Head Secretary In Charge.

CBS made a significant move by canceling the popular NCIS: Hawaii to make room for this new series. The original NCIS has been a consistent success despite numerous cast changes. Now, they’re giving their star series a prequel treatment, much like Young Sheldon did for The Big Bang Theory. Only time will tell if fans will remain loyal to the channel and tune in for this new offering.

So, NCIS fans, will you be watching this prequel spinoff?
