Champaign County State’s Attorney consulted before police action at protest, ready to prosecute if needed

Law enforcement agencies are responding to a pro-Palestine encampment on the University of Illinois campus, with the county’s State’s Attorney supporting their actions. No arrests have been made despite confrontations between protesters and law enforcement at the Alma Mater Statue. The State’s Attorney is prepared to prosecute if criminal violations occur. One person was arrested in the morning, with protesters rallying again in the afternoon. University Police attempted to remove demonstrators’ tents but faced resistance. The Urbana Fire Department is on standby, and the Illini 5K was canceled due to the increased police presence.
