Charges allege Minnesota State Sen. Nicole Mitchell broke into stepmother’s home and stole father’s ashes and sentimental items

A Minnesota state senator, Nicole Mitchell, is facing charges of first-degree burglary in connection to a break-in at a Detroit Lakes home. Mitchell allegedly broke into her stepmother’s home to retrieve sentimental items after her father’s death. She was found by police in the basement wearing black clothing and a black hat and was arrested with stolen items in her possession. Mitchell claimed she was trying to get her father’s things as her stepmother was not speaking to her. Lawmakers are calling for consequences, and Mitchell is currently in custody awaiting her court appearance.
