A state grand jury in Arizona indicted individuals called “fake electors” who supported then-President Donald Trump in 2020 as part of an investigation into attempting to overturn Joe Biden’s victory in the state’s presidential election. The group signed a certificate claiming to be Arizona’s 11 electors for the Electoral College, even though Biden won the state by over 10,000 votes. Kelli Ward, with ties to the Arizona GOP, and several others were charged. Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes, a Democrat, led the investigation to maintain the integrity of American democracy against attempts to undermine it. Similar cases have been reported in other states as part of Trump’s efforts to challenge the 2020 election results.
