Chris Pratt Celebrates 10th Anniversary of Guardians of the Galaxy

Yesterday marked a decade since James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy hit theaters, and franchise star Chris Pratt took to social media to commemorate the milestone. Six years into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios took what many considered their biggest leap by creating a movie centered on a relatively obscure group of characters. Featuring a cast comprising mainly B-list actors, the film defied expectations, becoming one of their highest-grossing movies and establishing Pratt as one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars. Following the success of Guardians, Pratt secured a role in Jurassic World, marking the beginning of his meteoric rise in the industry.

Pratt is slated to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe soon, although no specific plans have been confirmed. The end of Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 included a tag, teasing that “Star-Lord will return.”

“Today marks 10 YEARS since Guardians of the Galaxy hit the big screen,” Pratt shared. “Can you believe it? What a journey it’s been. I love this cast, the crew, and everyone involved. So grateful to the fans! You have changed my life. And to James Gunn, who took a chance on the sweaty goofball from Parks and Rec, thanks dude.”

Aside from Pratt, most of the Guardians cast appear to be done with the Marvel Universe. Dave Bautista, who portrayed Drax, and Zoe Saldana, who played Gamora, have both stated that they do not plan to return. Moreover, filmmaker James Gunn is now helming DC Studios alongside producer Peter Safran.

Guardians went on to inspire two theatrical sequels and a Holiday Special, which aired on Disney+. This special primarily featured Bautista’s Drax and Pom Klementieff’s Mantis. Collectively, the movies have earned over $2 billion, spawned a plethora of merchandise, and even inspired a roller coaster at Disney Parks.

According to its official synopsis, Guardians of the Galaxy tells the story of “Brash space adventurer Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), who finds himself pursued by relentless bounty hunters after stealing an orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain. To evade Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy alliance with four disparate misfits: gun-toting Rocket Raccoon, treelike-humanoid Groot, enigmatic Gamora, and vengeance-driven Drax the Destroyer. Upon discovering the orb’s true power and the cosmic threat it poses, Quill must rally his ragtag group to save the universe.”

Guardians of the Galaxy is available on disc and digital formats. It is also streaming on Disney+ for subscribers.
