College students and faculty unite in call for amnesty following involvement in anti-war demonstrations

Maryam Alwan and other students were suspended from Columbia University after being arrested during the Gaza Solidarity Encampment protest. Similar actions were taken at other colleges nationwide to quell anti-war protests. Students faced uncertainty about their academic futures, including taking exams and receiving financial aid. The nationwide protests have led to arrests, suspensions, expulsions, and probation at various colleges. Faculty have rallied in support of the students, demanding their suspensions be lifted. International students facing suspension also fear losing their visas. College administrators have struggled to balance free speech with inclusivity amid the demonstrations.
