College students at NYU and Yale and other institutions are being arrested during pro-Palestinian demonstrations

Protests have erupted on college campuses nationwide calling for the divestment of funds from Israeli military operations following events at Columbia University and arrests at New York University and Yale University. These protests have been mostly peaceful, although some instances of violence have occurred. University officials and police claim unaffiliated individuals are inciting violence on campuses. Students have expressed safety concerns, leading some universities to implement remote or hybrid learning options. House Speaker Mike Johnson plans to visit Columbia University to address rising antisemitism. The unrest stems from tensions that have escalated since the start of the Israel-Hamas war and has led to protests and arrests on campuses like NYU and Harvard. The protests demand divestment from Israeli military forces and have led to the suspension of student groups like the Harvard Palestine Solidarity Committee and encampments at MIT and Tufts University.
