Columbia University president declares: Talks with protesters at a standstill, decision not to divest from Israel upheld

Columbia University’s president announced that talks with student organizers have failed to reach an agreement, and the university will not divest from Israel. The protests on campus demanding divestment from Israel have created an unwelcoming environment for Jewish students and faculty. The university will not deprive students of graduation celebrations. Columbia was the first elite institution to face protests supporting the Palestinian cause. While the university will not divest from Israel, it has offered an expedited review process for new proposals and investments in health and education in Gaza. Discussions continue to explore alternative solutions to end the crisis.
