Congressman Donald Payne Jr. of New Jersey passes away at age 65

Rep. Donald Payne Jr., from New Jersey, has died at 65 due to a heart attack related to complications from diabetes. The son of former Congressman Donald Payne Sr., he served six terms in the House and was known for supporting health-care legislation and advocating for cancer and gun violence prevention. Before his political career, Payne worked as a toll collector and served on the Newark city council. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy praised Payne for understanding the struggles of working families and fighting for their needs. Payne leaves behind his wife, Beatrice, and three children.
